As macroeconomic pressures squeeze household discretionary spend - with 54 per cent of South African consumers adopting strict cost-saving measures according to PwC research—the off-price apparel segment is expanding rapidly. Faro's opening of its 20th physical store at Kenilworth Centre in Cape Town highlights how tech-enabled discount retail is monetising the global $425 billion unsold inventory sector. Sourcing overstock and processed returns from international labels like Zara, Levi's, and Puma, the business utilizes its proprietary Faro IQ predictive analytics engine to optimize stock allocation and maximize sell-through rates. We redirected our strategy directly toward a commercial model that reflects the daily economic reality facing our shoppers, states David Torr, CEO,Faro.

Scaling reverse logistics to address global overstock disruption

Backed by $6 million in venture capital funding led by JP Zammitt. President, Bloomberg, Faro's operations illustrate a scalable case study in circular supply chain monetisation. Comprising 60 per cent brand overstock and 40 per cent reconditioned returns, the retailer offers international fashion brands a controlled liquidation channel in emerging markets without eroding core brand equity. While freight inflation and supply chain complexity present ongoing operational challenges, physical expansion across high-density regional shopping centres continues to capture robust footfall, reinforcing value fashion as a resilient growth driver across African retail.

Commercial background and expansion model

Founded in 2024, Faro is a South African off-price apparel retailer selling discounted global fashion across menswear, womenswear, and footwear.
