Trump to impose duties on Chinese goods

President Donald Trump has threatened again to impose duties on nearly $150 billion worth of Chinese goods to punish Beijing for alleged violations of intellectual property.

Retailers will have to pass on these additional costs from tariffs to consumers. They can’t quickly change suppliers as they have already placed orders for back-to-school and holiday sales.

Companies and trade groups are pushing for a negotiated agreement between the two nations, rather than imposing tariffs that would raise costs on imports and draw punishing retaliatory Chinese tariffs.

While some entities are asking for products to be added to the target list for duties, others want their goods exempted.
