The European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) and non-profit organization Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) have formed a strategic alliance to align legislative advocacy and industrial practice across global textile value chains. The partnership addresses accelerating regulatory compliance demands within the European Union, specifically coordinating policy strategies around mandatory eco-design, textile waste management, and digital product passport frameworks.
Mitigating regulatory bottlenecks and supporting industrial viability
This cross-sectoral collaboration aims to protect manufacturing competitiveness while accelerating circular economy transitions. High capital expenditure requirements for fiber-to-fiber recycling technologies and fragmented compliance mandates present operational hurdles for regional spinning and weaving enterprises.
No single part of the value chain can deliver this transition alone. By joining forces with Global Fashion Agenda, the organization aims to advocate for policies that support both sustainability and competitiveness, notes Dirk Vantyghem, Director General, EURATEX.
The joint initiative is launching targeted workshops to scale circular business models. Initial framework evaluations show that standardized extended producer responsibility (EPR) mechanisms can optimize feedstock collection, raising textile recycling yields across regional hubs.
Advocating balanced trade agreements across production hubs
EURATEX represents the European textile and clothing industry, encompassing over 200,000 enterprise units with an aggregate turnover of €170 billion and 1.3 million workers. Founded in 1996, the confederation advocates for balanced trade agreements, research investment, and industrial policy across major manufacturing markets.
