With the daily output of masks touches over 20 million, China introduces new standards for KN95, effective from July 1, as a part of the comprehensive efforts to ensure an quality and safe supply chain as the mask goes global. COVID-19 drove up market demand for special gear like protective wear, face masks and sanitary textiles for hospital purposes, stimulating business for the technical textile industry. Xiantao city which is known as “China Famous Town of Nonwovens”, has over 300 nonwoven manufacturers all are in operation. High-tech Jiahua Nonwoven Company diverted their original business to the melt-blown nonwovens on urgent notice in the middle of February to keep daily output for more than 20 tons, adequate for 20 million pieces of face mask. China’s manmade fibre industry hit hard in sales, profits drop by 75%

In first two months; Jan-Feb 2020, according to the data from National Bureau of Statistics, the man-made fiber industry saw a freefall in profits by 74.78 percent,  PET fiber down by 132.01 percent and polyamide fiber (Nylon) down by 15.64 percent in profits. The total number of man-made fiber companies running in ‘red’ accounts for 48.7 percent. Profit/Sales ratio is reduced to a poor 0.48 percent in the troubled two months. The first two months Jan and Feb 2020 witnessed garment production drop by 36.61 percent, paid-in investment reduced by 50.2 percent. The domestic retail sales had fallout by 20.5 percent while the retails of garment had a sharp down by 33.2 percent. The online retail too, for the wearable commodities decreased by 18.1 percent. Taken together, there are 768 companies running in red, accounting for 48.72 percent of all the dyeing and printing companies, considered in a statistical study, a large increase by 16.15 percentage points over the corresponding months last year. As per China Chemical Fibers Association (CCFA), the total production of man-made fiber reached 58.27 million tons last year, up by 7.8 percent. The outbreak of novel coronavirus triggers run on medical and health textiles, driving the production of non-woven at full throttle across the country, particularly in Xiantao city, Hubei Province, best known as China Famous City for Non-Woven, a city home to over a hundred of non-woven manufacturing companies.
