The Odisha Government has formally sanctioned nineteen major industrial proposals totaling Rs 3,280.58 crore, with the textile, apparel, and technical textiles segment capturing two high-impact projects valued at Rs 184 crore. Approved during the 150th session of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority chaired by Anu Garg, Chief Secretary, these initiatives aim to generate 4,835 direct jobs. The strategy underlines a concerted regional push to diversify local economic drivers away from heavy metals and mining into labor-intensive, value-added manufacturing sectors that can absorb a growing skilled workforce.
Strategic investments and downstream integration
A major beneficiary of this latest clearance round is Dollar Industries, which is committing Rs 125 crore to build an integrated hosiery manufacturing complex in Khordha. Spanning knitted fabric production, advanced bleaching, dyeing, and finished hosiery assembly, the facility is slated to create 1,185 employment opportunities. Industry experts observe, such localized processing hubs are critical for reducing logistical friction and lead times. State-backed incentives in eastern corridors enable domestic apparel brands to scale output efficiently while insulating supply chains from western capacity constraints, remarks Debashis Mohapatra, Eastern India Industrial Logistics Consultant. By pairing hosiery expansion with protective technical textile ventures elsewhere in the state, Odisha is rapidly cementing its competitive viability for national and international retail markets.
Building on export-oritented textile and technical apparel hubs
Odisha's industrial policy focuses on attracting private capital to build export-oriented textile and technical apparel hubs. Key target categories include hosiery, protective workwear, and knitted fabrics. Growth plans prioritize employment-led manufacturing, sustainable processing units, and single-window clearances, building upon recent state efforts to diversify its industrial landscape.
